He Was Arrested 8 Times As A Teen And Had $7 To His Name, Now He’s The World’s Highest Paid Actor

Before he became one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson was a struggling young athlete with only seven dollars in his pocket and no clear path forward.

Today, the actor known worldwide as “The Rock” has built an entertainment empire worth hundreds of millions, starring in blockbuster franchises, dominating the box office and becoming one of the highest-paid performers in movie history. But Johnson’s rise to fame was anything but easy.

Long before he was headlining films like Jumanji: The Next Level and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Johnson faced poverty, legal trouble and crushing setbacks that nearly derailed his future.

Born into a wrestling family, Johnson spent much of his childhood moving from place to place while his parents struggled financially. During his teenage years in Hawaii, things became especially difficult after his family was reportedly evicted from their home.

The future superstar later admitted he repeatedly found himself in trouble as a teenager and was arrested multiple times for theft and fighting-related incidents. In past interviews, Johnson openly discussed getting caught up with a group that targeted tourists and stole expensive clothing, jewelry and luxury items to make quick money.

Despite the chaos surrounding him, Johnson found an outlet through fitness and sports.

Determined to change the direction of his life, he focused heavily on football and eventually earned a full scholarship to the University of Miami, where he played defensive tackle for the Hurricanes.

Although he dreamed of making it to the NFL, that goal never materialized.

After college, Johnson signed with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League. But his football career ended almost as quickly as it began when he was cut from the roster.

Johnson has said that moment left him devastated.

With his professional football ambitions shattered, he returned home broke and battling depression. The experience became so defining that he later named his production company, Seven Bucks Productions, after the amount of money he reportedly had left at the time.

Instead of giving up, Johnson reinvented himself once again.

He turned to professional wrestling, initially performing in small venues and flea markets for modest paychecks. In 1996, he officially joined WWE and adopted the ring name “The Rock.”

It did not take long for audiences to embrace his charisma, humor and larger-than-life personality.

Johnson quickly became one of wrestling’s biggest attractions, winning championships and turning catchphrases like “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?” into pop culture staples.

His popularity in wrestling soon opened the door to Hollywood.

After appearing in projects like The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King, Johnson transitioned into acting full time and steadily became one of the industry’s most reliable box-office draws.

Over time, he starred in major hits including Moana, San Andreas and multiple installments of the Fast & Furious franchise.

His success eventually reached historic levels, with Forbes naming him among the world’s highest-paid actors after earning staggering sums through films, television projects and business ventures.

Still, Johnson frequently reminds fans that his journey began with hardship and failure.

The actor often shares motivational messages online about resilience, discipline and perseverance, telling followers that setbacks can ultimately become the foundation for success.

For millions of fans, Johnson’s story is more than a Hollywood success tale — it is proof that rock bottom does not have to be the end of the road.
