Hot Honey Garlic Chicken: Crispy, Sticky, Sweet, and Spicy

Hot Honey Garlic Chicken brings together crispy chicken and a sweet-and-spicy glaze that is packed with garlic and just enough heat. The chicken is coated until golden and crunchy before being tossed in a glossy sauce made with honey, hot sauce, garlic, and butter. It is quick enough for a weeknight dinner but flavorful enough to feel like something special.

Ingredients

  • 1½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Hot Honey Garlic Sauce

  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and pat them dry. In one bowl, whisk the eggs. In another, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture. The combination of flour and cornstarch helps create an especially crisp exterior.

Heat about ½ inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken in batches for approximately 4–5 minutes per side, depending on the size of the pieces, until deeply golden and cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan, as this can lower the oil temperature and prevent the coating from becoming crisp. Transfer the cooked chicken to a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate.

For the glaze, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat and add the minced garlic. Cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant, then stir in the honey, hot sauce, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Simmer gently for 1–2 minutes until the sauce becomes glossy and slightly thickened. Add the crispy chicken and toss until every piece is coated in the sticky glaze.

Serve the chicken immediately with steamed rice, roasted vegetables, or crispy fries. If you prefer more heat, increase the amount of hot sauce or add a pinch of red pepper flakes. For a milder version, reduce the hot sauce and let the honey provide more of the sweetness. The key is tossing the chicken in the sauce right before serving so it stays as crispy as possible while still absorbing that sweet, garlicky glaze.
